Fractal Collective emerged from the belief that there are commonalities in what many of us want:
Affordability. Safety. Choice. Equal opportunity to thrive.
We also believe that there are consistent conflicts that limit active support of these things:
First, our day-to-day is full, and fast-paced. Life is full of competing priorities, distractions, and inadequate support systems.
Second, our world is overwhelming. Global atrocities, climate disasters, economic uncertainty, the list goes on. Sometimes we just don’t to know where to start, how to get involved, or what our role should be.
Yet overtime, a tension arises within us when we do not act in accordance with our values -
We detach from our own sense of integrity.
Fractal Co encourages us to reconnect with ourselves, and with one another.
We acknowledge the challenges and the overwhelm, and we choose to lean in anyways.
It’s not about perfection - it’s about progress.
Together, we can identify a few focus areas - so as to contain the overwhelm - and to use the levers most available to our unique circumstances - so as to sustainably integrate our efforts with our our daily demands.

What’s in a Name?
Fractal
A “fractal” is a pattern that repeats at scale, so each part looks just like its whole.
Think of a whole broccoli, made up of little broccoli trees. Or look closely at a fern, and you’ll notice each leaf is made up of smaller fern patterns.
As adrienne maree brown wrote, “How we are at a small scale is how we are at the large scale".” (Emergent Strategy, 2017)
Fractal Co believes that everyday decisions have large-scale cumulative impact. We have the choice to contribute to something larger than ourselves.
We are especially grateful to adrienne maree brown for the inspiration behind our organizational name, fern logo, and invitation to “practise inward and upward”. Run, don’t walk to read Emergent Strategy and her many other beautiful works of writing.
